Thoughts and comments about Sylvia Miller, her art work, and her teaching.

"Thank you so much for the painting that I bought from you. I am excited that it will go to be in your Beijing exhibition in China.  I am looking forward to having it when it returns. Are you going to Beijing to see the show? It will be interesting to think that people from another culture/language, will be puzzling over it/enjoying it!"
-- Jeanne F. Schultz, Santa Rosa, CA, November 2000
-- Note: This painting, titled A Tribute to Charles Schultz, is now hanging in the Charles Schultz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA

"I attended the Sylvia demonstrations on Sat. May 20th. Watching her paint her watercolor was a lesson in excellence and freedom. As I watched Sylvia wave her brush strokes freely with confidence, I decided to let go of what I thought were my limitations in painting and attempt to be more liberated. Who knows how my backgrounds will sparkle now that I have watched Sylvia."
      -- C. F. F., reprinted from the Castor Valley A.R.T. Inc, June 2000.

"'I hope to join Sylvia when she comes to Ohio next year. I think I learned more in four days than I have in a lifetime of painting.' From a letter written to another student in a workshop, who then forwarded it to me with her letter."
-- Maurice Silverman, Cleveland, OH, to Millicent Watkins, Davis, CA, 2002.

"Lisa was so excited about how constructive and positive your comments are in your critiques. She also said that she was learning so much because she was relaxed and enjoying herself and didn't feel threatened. She also enjoyed your acceptance of all levels and all styles. (Lisa has a four year art degree.)"
-- Lois Benson, Santa Rosa, CA, 2003.

"Jackie said that she takes a lot of workshops. She said she'd learned more from your sessions than from the others she'd been to. She said to me, 'You don't know how lucky you are to have started from the beginning with a really good teacher.'" (From another student's comments.)
-- Lois Benson, Santa Rosa, CA, 2003.

"Once in a while, not very often, an event, experience or occasion happens in my life that I feel deserves recognition. Thank you for sharing your lecture and paintings with WASCO today. Today was very special for me. I believe that most artists function in response to the question: "Can I...?" Then there are those few artists who react to the question: "What if I...?" When I see what happens when an artist works from the What-if-I motivation, the results are so different and so exciting. I am one of those people who tends to like a lot or not at all. I liked these paintings of yours very much."
-- Ned Luzmoor, WASCO member, Santa Rosa, CA, May 2004.

"I grow more appreciative of your work each time I add one of your paintings to my collection. I now own 13. I started collecting your work about 20 years ago."
-- from a note to Sylvia from one of her collectors, a Sonoma County, CA resident, 1999.

"Dear Sylvia: On Christmas Eve, Bob surprised me with one of your Portugal watercolors, and I want you know how proud I am to own it. I have always admired you and your art and always dreamed of owning some of your work. I just wanted you to know I love the feeling and the colors and shades you used in the piece and I am going to frame it today. I would like to commission you to do a painting of a quaint country store that my grandfather ran at 3011 Fourth Street for 40 years (from 1918 to 1960). I wanted to ask you about the cost and possibility of having you do this in watercolor for me."
      -- J.J., via email, December 2004.
